Where To Start > Sample Surveys

Developing baseline information on your sports operations is crucial for establishing a department-wide sustainability plan and tracking the progress of your sustainability initiatives. Tracking your environmental performance not only helps your facilities and operations staff understand where there are opportunities for increased efficiency and potential cost savings, but also helps quantify these improvements.

Consider using the following sample surveys to evaluate current operations practices and policies across your athletics and recreation department facilities and events. You can download these surveys as PDFs at the bottom of this page. Arrange in-person meetings with facilities, custodial services, groundskeeping, administrative, and any other relevant staff from your sports departments to discuss the below questions and to learn more about the procurement and operations standards in place. Ask follow-up questions about standout opportunities or challenges faced to date regarding any of the initiatives covered in the survey.

Use the information collected to determine the financial and operational feasibility of additional environmental procurement policies, infrastructure upgrades and improvements to building management systems. The survey information will help prioritize new environmental policies or infrastructure upgrades for your sports venues based on existing staff buy-in and the estimated return on investment.

To establish or enhance your data collection systems at your sports facilities refer to the categories and metrics listed on the Sustainability Metrics page of this guide. Download the surveys at the bottom of the page.
